Arthur Oliver Smith

With his father and brothers, Smith was involved in the manufacture of bicycle parts and hardware for baby carriages. He became involved in manufacturing frames for early automobiles. After Henry Ford placed an order for 10,000 frames, the A.O. Smith Company grew rapidly to become the nation’s largest frame producer. This specialty continues under the Tower Automotive name.
