Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum’s annual Día de los Muertos celebration is on Saturday, October 24, 2026 in partnership with Mercadera Market.

The day starts with a 5K/2K at 9:30 a.m., followed by a free, family-friendly festival beginning at 10 a.m. Visitors can explore community ofrendas, shop local vendors, enjoy food and live performances, and honor loved ones in one of Milwaukee’s most historic and beautiful spaces.

Forest Home has been a place of remembrance since 1850, and this celebration is a natural fit: a joyful, colorful way to remember the people we love.

School ofrendas in the chapel

The ofrendas displayed in Forest Home Cemetery’s historic chapel are a vibrant way to celebrate life and honor the memory of those who have died. Each year, we invite local schools to create ofrendas for display in the chapel during our Día de los Muertos festival.

Forest Home Cemetery families are encouraged to create ofrendas or altars to the dead at the graves of their loved ones. Items should not be placed before October 10 and must be removed by November 4, 2026.
