Timothy A. Chapman

Having clerked in a Boston department store, Chapman opened his own store here in 1857. Sales grew dramatically, and he opened one of the regions largest department stores at Wisconsin and Jefferson. It became known as “Chapman’s Corner”. He was one of the first Milwaukee businessmen to train and employ women as clerks.
