Sherburn M. Becker

In a colorful, mudslinging campaign, Becker became Milwaukee’s youngest mayor at 27. His single term in office was marked by publicity stunts. He drove a red roadster emblazoned with “Boy Mayor” banners to the New York home of President Theodore Roosevelt. He gained notoriety when he and a group of firemen knocked down most of the downtown’s elaborate street clocks.
