Cultivate the pride of our past
After 174 years, many of the oldest monuments in our cemetery are unreadable, crumbling or the inscriptions are missing . However, the Forest Home Historic Preservation Association focuses annually on a few monument preservation projects to properly restore these ancient gravestones and preserve the memory of important residents. Through your gift, these Milwaukeeans will continue to be remembered by future generations.

The George Marshall Clark project, completed in 2021
In 1861, a 24-year-old black man named George Marshall Clark was lynched by a mob for a crime he did not commit. His family buried him at Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum in an unmarked grave. It is possible that this grave was left unmarked because of the prohibitive cost of a marker or possibly because family members did not want the young man’s final resting place to be disturbed or vandalized. Donations to the preservation fund were raised by a local artist, Tyrone Randle, and a marker was dedicated on the 160th anniversary of his death.
