Milwaukee’s First Accredited Arboretum
Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum was designated as Milwaukee’s first accredited arboretum in 2021. Designed by Increase A. Lapham, Wisconsin’s first naturalist, it became Milwaukee first landscaped park-like space before the Milwaukee parks system existed. Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum received accreditation as a Level II arboretum from ArbNet. This means that the cemetery has met the requirements of having over 100 labeled trees, paid management, public access and enhanced educational programs. Other arboreta exist in Milwaukee already, but this is the first to receive official accreditation.
