John T. Janssen

Janssen served as Milwaukee’s police chief for 33 years. He was the first to be appointed by the Fire and Police Commission. Under Janssen’s leadership, the Police Department was transformed into one of the most efficient in the U.S. Known as “Czar” Janssen, he ruled as an autocrat and was a relentless pursuer of professional criminals.
