Guido Pfister (1818 to 1889)

Section 33, Lots 82 and 83

Starting with the Buffalo Leather Store, Pfister became a key player in Milwaukee’s flourishing tanning business, largely because of the local availability of tanning bark. He joined with Frederick Vogel in 1872 to form one of the largest leather companies in the Midwest. Besides his interests in banking, insurance and railroads, Pfister was instrumental in the construction of a canal system to serve businesses in the Menomonee Valley.
